A massive fire yesterday in Yonkers that displaced about 150 happened in a type of apartment building that is common in Mount Vernon. Last week Mount Vernon fire Commissioner Teddy Beale called into WVOX and he discussed the high rate of fires in Mount Vernon, the MVFD’s training and our firefighters’ experience. Beale said there were 58 working structure fires in 2018. That number is the highest since the 1970s. “We’ve been busier than hell,” Beale said.
